Peggy Winnell Fox Johnson was born in Hail, Texas on October 31, 1931, to John and Mary Fox. She attended school in Gober where she excelled on the basketball team and academically, graduating valedictorian from Gober High School at the age of sixteen. As the fourth of 10 children, Peggy spent time working on the farm and helping raise her younger brothers and sisters when her mother was hospitalized.
After graduation, she moved to Lubbock and met a good-looking young man named Eugene Johnson. They were married on May 3, 1954, and enjoyed forty-four years together, raising their four boys. She worked at Albertson’s for over thirty years, where she was affectionately known as “Mama Peggy.”
On March 12, 2020, she celebrated a great union as she joined those who preceded her in death; her husband Eugene; youngest son, John; granddaughter, Sarah; grandson, Derek; great-grandson, Colton, and eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her brother, Jimmy; sons and their wives, David and Donna of Seminole; Keith and Lori of Orlando, Florida; Alan and Carol of Midland, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
The Johnson family would like to thank Hospice of Midland and The Courtyard of Odessa with special thanks to Ana for their exceptional care of our Mama Peggy.
