Peggy Jane Duckworth received her angel wings on June 5, 2016. She was born in Spur, Texas to Mary Melvin (Patton) Hogan and Ned Hogan on July 11, 1922. After Graduation from Spur High School she met and married the new high school football coach Joseph Woodrow “Duck” Duckworth, on December 20, 1940. Together, they raised five children, Mary Ann (Max) Ince and Leslie (Joe) Ince of Lubbock, Kathy (Kevin) Lemmons of Keller, Texas, Cindy (Jim) Washburn, of Austin, Texas and son Dudley Duckworth of Lubbock and were married for 58 years before his death in January of 1999.
With each Duckworth family move Peggy made lasting friends and kept in touch with them over the years. She was an avid bridge player, loved to work in her garden and flower beds, was present for all programs and athletic events of children and grandchildren and was a savvy shopper. In her latter years she added travel and was fortunate to see much of God’s creation. Her gift was that of caregiver and advocate and she served her church, Lubbock View Cristian, as a Sunday school teacher, chief chef, board member and Elder. Her last church home was Indiana Avenue Baptist Church.
She is survived by her five children; grandchildren, Ashley Pfeiffer, Kasey Smith, Amber Libby, Tyler Ince, Taylor Lemmons and Michael Lemmons; great grandchildren Jake Pfeiffer and Luke Pfeiffer, McCann Libby and Leighton Libby, Ryan Smith, Harper Lemmons and special niece and nephew Rena Gordon and Ray Pat Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters and two brothers.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Promise Land House 4, Brookdale Monterey, Accolade Home Health/Hospice and nursing staff at UMC for their loving attention. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to support Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s research. Online condolences may be offered at: www.resthavenfuneralhome.com
