Norma was born on August 14, 1932 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and married the love of her life, Robert Whit Childers, on July 17, 1952, in Fort Riley, Kansas. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and a ton of amazing memories. In Norma's early years, she was a cheerleader with a vibrant personality all through her school days at Jefferson High School.
Norma Childers, also known as Maw/Mamaw was a devoted member of her community; Norma served at church funerals and was an active participant in St. Elizabeth's Altar Society. She took great joy in leading the Brownie Girl Scouts and was a treasured member of the local Hobby Club, where her creativity flourished. She was a faithful servant at heart devoting her time to helping others however needed. She had a relationship with Jesus that was evident by anyone that knew her.
Her Cajun heritage from New Orleans shone through in her cooking, especially her legendary gumbo, which brought family and friends together around the dinner table. The dirtier the water, the better it was. Norma's kindness knew no bounds; once you were part of her family, you were loved unconditionally no matter what. She would love you during the good times and the bad times, as her love was limitless.
An ultimate homemaker and one of the best cooks around, Norma was always ready to lend a hand or provide for those in need. Her nurturing spirit and generous heart will be deeply missed. Anytime a grandkid was sick, she would take care of them with a grateful heart and a smile on her face because she loved nurturing others. Norma's kind heart will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Robert Whit Childers II (Dawn), Cheryl Mayes, Cindy Rasberry (Glen), and Connie Jackson (Lynn). Norma leaves behind a legacy of love through her cherished grandchildren: Kelly Cruz, Anthony Jones, Rebecca Beights, Elizabeth Cox (Daniel), Kayli Durham (Adam), and Blake Jackson (Morgan).
She is preceded in death by husband Robert Whit Childers.
