Patricia “Mom Pat” Killion, 84, passed away Friday October 18, 2013 in Lubbock. She was born April 7, 1929 in Gurley, Nebraska to Dr A.A. and Lola Larsen. She went to The University of Nebraska where she earned degrees in Music and English. She also met her husband, Dean Killion, there and they were married August 3, 1950. They moved to Lubbock in 1959 when Dean became the Director of Bands at Texas Tech where he served until 1981. Mom Pat taught voice at Texas Tech and Lubbock High and English at Monterey High School. She was a sponsor of the Tau Beta Sigma Band Sorority and a member of P.E.O.. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church and Westmont Christian. She was also an Elder at Westmont Christain Church.
Survivors include children Barbara Jean Newton and husband Dr. James Newton, James L Killion and wife Sheri and Jerry D Killion and wife Kristi; sister, Jean Aiken; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one grandchild.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 20, 2013 in Resthaven Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30pm. A graveside service will be Monday October 21, at 11 am in Resthaven Memorial Park. A memorial service will be Monday at 2 pm in Westmont Christian Church. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Dean Killion Scholarship Fund at Texas Tech School of Music.
