Melva Jo Waters Hicks passed peacefully away Sunday, April 19, 2015. She was born August 17, 1931 to the late Aubrey Leo (Orb) Waters and Clota (Koko) Akins Waters. She had a happy childhood on the farm. At 16 after graduating from high school she moved to Lubbock and lived with her aunt and uncle Macon and Hazel James while going to Draughn’s Business College. She took a job at the Avalanche Journal where she met William Henry (Dub) Hicks and married him August 10, 1952. They were married 54 years. Their greatest hobby was taking many trips around the world together. Jo's other favorite hobby was reading romance novels.
She is preceded in death by her husband; and daughter, Karen Hicks Yeargain.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Hicks King and husband James, of Rowlett; grandchildren, Amber and Justin Butler, of Mesquite, Ashley King, Cape Town, South Africa, James and Joy King of Dallas, Kelsy Yeargain of New Orleans; and two great grandchildren, Ariana and William Butler; her sister, Mary Fullerton and family of Lubbock; along with countless other relatives and close friends she considered family.
