Marvin “Skipper” Welch was welcomed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday October 22, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Skipper was born in Lubbock, Texas on November 10, 1934 to Martin Leon Welch and Annie Byrd Spalding. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Rhonda Barnett, and a daughter Kathy Gleason. He is survived by his wife, Pearlene Welch and son Chris Welch of Lubbock; 4 grandchildren, Coy Gleason, Staci Gleason, Brandon Welch and Aubony Alonzo; 3 great-grandchildren; and sister, Ann Gray of Austin. Skipper was retired from the US Postal System, and had been a children’s bowling coach for 20 years and a baseball coach. He was a mentor to countless children, encouraging, funny and absolutely never met a stranger. Today we are confident that when he saw Jesus for the first time, He heard Him say “Welcome, thou good and faithful servant”! The family suggests memorials to the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be tonight, October 24, 2013 from 5 to 7 pm in Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday October 25 at 11:00 am in Generations Church, Lubbock with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
