On August 17, 2019, Lula Bess Davis passed from this life and is now at rest in the embracing arms of her Lord. Born, Lula Teal on June 25, 1932 in Slaton, TX , she was raised with her 7 brothers and sisters in Post, TX. Known as Lou, by most of her friends and family, she often helped with nieces and nephews forming a lifelong bond with them. Known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Mimi. She was cherished and loved as a constant presence by all of them, even though the distance between them was sometimes great.
Her influence on this world is measured by the multitude of stories of laughter and tenderness she shared with so many. She’s remember for her quick wit and wry observations, as she rarely missed an opportunity to share her feelings. Some might say obnoxious, or loud, but to those that knew and loved her, those were endearing qualities that truly brought light and laughter to this world. Her personality was oversized for her small stature to say the least. She could “bless your heart” with an unrivaled sarcasm. Aunt Sissy was a card, a character and a cut up. Did she take anything seriously? Absolutely, but if she could find a sliver of humor in the darkest of times, she shared it with the rest of us in hopes of lifting fallen spirits or mending broken hearts. She will be missed by all those who remember her indominable spirt.
Lou married Melvin Davis whom she met a Bob Wills concert on a blind date. They married shortly afterwards in the early 1950’s. They first lived in Lubbock, Texas, but resided for most of their lives in Floydada, TX before returning to Lubbock in 1984. They were married for over 50 years, found joy in their beloved family, and are once again reunited in heaven together.
Lula and Melvin are survived by one daughter, Nancy C. Davis Jarnagin and son in law Joe Mack of Port Orchard, WA; 3 grandsons: Bryan and wife Stephanie Jarnagin of Port Orchard, WA; Jay and wife, SaraJane Jarnagin , of Port Orchard, WA., and Cory Jarnagin of Port Ludlow, WA. She also is survived by 6 great-grand children and 1 great great granddaughter
