Lucille Hawkes Hurley, age 92, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at 5:30 P.M. in Allen, Texas. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the Resthaven Mausoleum Chapel, Lubbock, TX, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 25, 2012 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Resthaven.
Lucille Hurley was born December 16, 1919 to Loma Clifford Griffin and Jim Hawkes in Roxton, TX. She had many happy memories of her childhood with her younger brothers and many relatives in Roxton, Howland, and Paris, TX, where she attended Paris High School. While in Paris, she met Robert Glenn Hurley and they married in 1941. They lived in Paris, Lubbock, and Carlsbad, NM. In 1951, Lucille and Glenn purchased a house in Lubbock where they made their home and raised their son. She was the quintessential 1950’s homemaker and a wonderful cook, as well as an active member of the Church of Christ. Always gregarious, she enjoyed working numerous work-from-home sales programs, and was especially proud to have earned a “Golden Life Estater” award as a Studio Girl Cosmetics representative, as well as “Direct Distributor” in Amway.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Glenn, in 1977.
Lucille is survived by two brothers, James R. Hawks of Charlotte, NC, and his family; Thomas C. Hawkes of New Boston, TX, and his family; by her son, Jim L. Hurley of Allen, TX, and his wife; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
