Hattye Loraine Graves, the second of nine children, was born February 2, 1921 in Huckabay, Erath, Texas, to William Oscar and Hattie Perkins. She grew up in Lubbock, Texas graduating from Lubbock High School in 1938. She married Ernest Joy Graves in 1941. He predeceased her in August, 1991.
Loraine graduated from Texas Tech University in 1959 and earned a Master’s Degree in 1965. She taught first grade many years in the Lubbock Independent School District, mainly at McWhorter and Rush Elementary Schools. She was a faithful member of the church of Christ, worshipping with Southside, Greenlawn, Montery and Sunset churches over the years. In 2008, she moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and was a member of Faith Village church of Christ. She died on February 27, 2015 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
She is predeceased by her parents; her siblings; Eugene, Philip, Kenneth and William Perkins, Elaine Marshall and Bettye Ellison Farris.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Joy Evelyn and Charles Lowe of Golden, CO, and Martha and John H. Mason of Wichita Falls, TX. Grandchildren and great grandchildren include Jeffrey Lowe; Amy, Scott and Genevieve Swartz; Kevin, Julie and Bennett Lowe; David Lowe; Laura Mason; John, Casey and John Quinn Mason.
Surviving also are her brother, John (Rosemary) Perkins, Ransom Canyon, TX; sister, Carol Whitson, Bedford, TX; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Perkins, Runaway Bay, TX and Margaret Moore, Flora Vista, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.
