Larry Kalvy Thompson joined our Lord in Heaven on December 24, 2021. He was born to James and Kerney Thompson in Plainview, TX on December 20,1942 and was grandson of Harvey and Lizziebell Thompson of Plainview and Kalvy and Lillie Hunter of Cement, Oklahoma.
He graduated from Kaiserslautern American High School in Germany in 1961. In 1965, he graduated from Texas A & I University, was commissioned as a second Lieutenant in the US Army Signal Corps, and was stationed in Fort Gordon, Georgia. He received his MA in English at Sul Ross University and his doctorate in Education from California Coast University.
He owned Larry K. Thompson and Associates Realtors for 10 years. He taught at Fort Stockton High School, Estacado High School, Lubbock High School and finally at Plainview High School where he worked for 16 years. After retiring from 23 years in education, he served in the Texas State Guard for 13 years retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Following his retirement from education and the Texas State Guard, he joyfully delivered coffee for 9 years for Daybreak Coffee Roasters.
He enjoyed spending time with his wife and children, learning languages, and keeping up with his fellow State Guardsmen. He was an author of five published books, numerous short stories, and several novellas. He was a lifelong learner, an entrepreneur, an artist, and a dreamer. An avowed Christian and Patriot, his favorite saying was “Never give up, never!”
He loved his wife with every fiber of his being and joyously lived to see their 55th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his loving wife Ann P. Thompson, his brother Dean Thompson (Sherry), his children Amy Thompson Stell and John Thompson, his four grandchildren Elijah, Reagan, Kalvy, and Avery Thompson, and one great-grandchild Ja’Marcus Lewis Jr.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions honoring LTC Larry K. Thompson may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
