Kenneth was born on August 18, 1921, in Bethany, Oklahoma. He met and married his one and only love, Tommie Lou Shipman, on November 15, 1943, in Williamsburg, Virginia. Kenneth was a Navy Veteran and served as a Seabee in the South Pacific during World War II. Kenneth and Tommie moved to the Lubbock area in 1947, where he worked as a maintenance man at Methodist Hospital and later as an electrician for the Lubbock State School. Kenneth and his family attended and was an elder of the Faith Assembly of God Church for over 45 years. After retiring, the Wrights moved to Wolfforth where Ken started making metal sculptures known as the “Spinning Cowboy” which was made from recycled parts such as car valves, lug nuts, and horseshoe nails. He made and gave away over 5,000 of them to the young and old alike all over Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, as well as all around the world.
Kenneth Wright is survived by his wife of 66 years, Tommie Lou Wright; son, Bobby Wright; daughter, Debbie Wright; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
A very special thanks to the entire staff to The Plaza of Lubbock for making Kenneth’s last days on this earth peaceful and serene.
