Colonel Kenneth Reynolds died at Carillon House in Lubbock on February 9 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's. He was born in Myrtle, Mississippi on October 23, 1931 to William Thomas and Alice "Dootsie" Coffey Reynolds.
He graduated with honors from Myrtle High School, attended Mississippi College, and graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry with a DDS. degree in Memphis, Tennessee.
He chose a career in the U. S. Army as a dentist. While in the Army, he became the first dentist to serve in the Green Berets and as a paratrooper. In addition to serving soldiers in the military, he did special projects among native groups for the military. His army career included time in Viet Nam during the rough part of that war. He retired from the army after more than twenty years of service, and settled in Jacksonville, Florida where he engaged in several business ventures, but mostly enjoyed time fishing. He became a skilled fisherman, and loved nature around him.
He moved to Lubbock, and to Carillon Retirement Center to be near his only sibling, Alice Lowrie, and her family. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Will Tom Reynolds, and Harry Lee Reynolds. He is survived by a daughter, Heather Johnson of Orlando, Florida, and a sister Alice Lowrie (Mrs. D. L.) and her husband, and several nephews and nieces. Several of them will remember him as an uncle that assisted them in a time of need. He was always interested in helping people find health and happiness.
He will be remembered at Carillon as the man who beautified the campus with a beautiful flower garden each summer. It was his living witness to the goodness of God.
He will be honored in a memorial service at Neil Chapel on Carillon campus at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2023 with military honors. His remains will be placed at the Military Cemetery in Grand Prairie, Texas at a later date. The family is grateful for the care that Woody received at Carillon for many years, and for the help of UMC Hospice in recent days, plus support from the CPCS group.
