Karen was born on September 3, 1953 in Austin, Texas to George and Betty (Gamblin) Miller. Karen graduated from Floydada High School in 1971 and went on to earn a Clothing & Textiles Degree, with a Minor in Education from Texas Tech University in 1974. Karen married her best friend Michael Wynn Burk on August 10, 1974 and had their only son, Shane Burk, in March 1981.
Karen was a home economics teacher at Abilene High School from 1974-1976 before moving to
Lubbock, Texas, where she taught home economics at Atkins Middle School from 1976-1990.
She taught Kindergarten from 1990-1993. In 1993, Karen graduated from Texas Tech University with her Masters in School Counseling. She would work as a school counselor at Ballinger Head
Start Campus until she retired in 2008 to take care of her first grandchild.
Karen had a passion for sewing and reading. She was also passionate about her family and loved traveling with her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. She was known for her infectious smile, investment in students & families, and commitment to the Lord.
Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Betty, and father, George. She is survived by her husband, Mike, her son Shane (Lori), two grandchildren, Claire & Elliott, her brother Pat (Patti)
Miller and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
