On Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 4:10 PM, Junior Raymond Taylor passed away at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Phyllis Taylor, and is the patriarchal figure of a caring family that consists of six children, 21 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.
Junior was born in Benbush, West Virginia. Shortly after his birth the town suffered an enormous fire and burned to the ground, an event that preceded a long life of odds-beating and adventure-seeking. He was a Vietnam Veteran that served in the military for 23 years, much of it as a meteorologist. He also worked for Phelps Dodge for 11 years and for Civil Service for 13 years. A man full of stories, compassion, and a general love of life, Junior enjoyed bowling, softball, and horseshoes. He was also an avid traveler, having driven thousands of miles cross-country over the course of his life, a passion that continues on through his family today.
The family will gather and receive friends for a visitation on Monday, October 6, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Resthaven Memorial Park at 10:00 AM.
