She graduated from Monterey High School in 1985, then obtained a pre-med degree from TCU in 1989. At TCU she was involved in her studies and sorority activities and became a Horned Frog for life.
Julia was accepted at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and received her medical degree in 1993. She completed a one year internship prior to transferring to the University of Louisville School of Medicine to become board certified in Pediatrics as well as completing her pediatric emergency room fellowship. Julia moved to Dallas where she was employed at Children’s Hospital. It was at this time in her life that she realized her true servant’s heart as she began her medical mission work in Haiti. She made multiple trips to Haiti to teach in the medical school there and provide care to local Haitians through her clinical work. The next chapter of her life brought her to New Orleans as an associate professor and clinical ER physician at Tulane University School of Medicine. She continued her trips and care to Haiti.
She completed her circle of medical work when she returned to Texas to work in the pediatric emergency room at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio. After 20 years in medicine, Julia again realized the call of her servant’s heart. She carried a passion for Christ and wanted to incorporate His call into her life.
She was accepted at the Dallas Theological Seminary and had been working to complete a Masters of Theology. Her plan to mesh medicine and theology was recently interrupted when God had His own plan for her and called her home on December 24, 2024.
Julia was active in her Church wherever she was living. She attended Wayside Chapel in San
Antonio and loved her Bible study group, the Carpenter Class. She often shared scripture
readings and books with her friends.
Julia was generous to all people in need–always contributing something to many charities. She carried bottled water and granola bars for the homeless she would encounter on the streets in San Antonio. She taught others to do small things with great love. And all who knew Julia, also knew that she loved dogs. She had several over her lifetime and always remembered to include dog treats for furry family members of her friends during Christmas. Her dog Radar lived a charmed life with her and will help us remember her with a smile.
Julia is preceded in death by her mother Audrey and is survived by her father Popy Jim.
She leaves the world a little brighter by her presence and will be greatly missed by her wide
circle of friends.
