Wednesday, November 9, 2011, Ena Joyce Chipman completed her long and fruitful journey as wife, mother, and mentor. Born, February 22, 1929, to V. L. and Ena Inez Elliott in Sweetwater, she grew up in West Texas, graduating in 1946 from Sweetwater’s Newman High School. Matriculating at Hardin-Simmons University, she subsequently, in 1948, met and married Stanley D. Chipman. In the following years, she established a home, produced three children, and completed baccalaureate and master’s degrees.
Joyce Chipman began a teaching career in Sweetwater. Moving in 1968 with her family to Lubbock,
She taught life skills with patience, skill, and love to generations at Thompson and Dupre elementary schools, retiring in 1992.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Stanley D. Chipman of Lubbock, a son, William D. Chipman and wife, Ernestine, of Irving, daughter, Suzan N. Mayfield and husband, Ron, of Granbury, daughter, Mary Jane Litton and husband, Allen, of Lubbock, grandson, Jason Mayfield and wife, Fran, of Katy, granddaughter Melissa Hamor and husband, Jason, of Ft. Worth, great-granddaughters, Addy, Cori, and Kara Mayfield of Katy, and Elizabeth Hamor and a great grandson, Jeremiah Hamor, of Ft. Worth, and a sister, Sarah N. Baulch and family of South Texas.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Friday, November 11, 2011 at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel from 9:00am to 10:00am where funeral services will begin at 10:00am. Interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
