Joy Moutos

Joy was the youngest of 4 children born to W L and Mary Alice Downing, and a graduate of Texas Tech University with a degree in Music Education. Joy married Vas Moutos in 1957, and taught piano students in the Lubbock area for more than 65 years. She was extremely dedicated to her students and inspired countless lives, many students going on to become doctors, lawyers, pharmacists, and professional musicians practicing around the world. She was active in many organizations promoting the importance of music, and was teacher of the year multiple times within the local and state communities. Her legacy was that she lived up to her name and inspired Joy in everyone she encountered.

She is survived by her son Jimmy Moutos, daughter Susan Moutos Bailey, son-in-law Ken Bailey, and granddaughter Kristin Bailey. She was preceded in death by her husband Vas James Moutos.

Services will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Lubbock, TX on Thursday, January 18th at 2 pm. Following the celebration of life, there will be a graveside committal service at Resthaven Memorial Park, all are welcome to attend.
