Dr. John C. Pinson, 86, of Anaheim, died in his sleep on September 3, 2017 after struggling with congestive heart failure. He was born July 18, 1931 in Lubbock, TX, to H. Bert and Vera N. (Carver) Pinson. John received a BS from Texas Tech in 1952, and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from MIT in 1957.
John began work in California with North American Aviation, ultimately serving as Chief Scientist of the Autonetics Strategic Systems Division at Rockwell International before retiring as a Senior Technical Fellow from Boeing in 1999. His work in inertial navigation garnered him a number of patents.
He enjoyed playing bridge and fishing. John married Mary Ruth Sims in 1952. She preceded him in death in 2005. He leaves one son Dr. J. Stephen Pinson, an anesthesiologist in Sacramento, his wife Barbara Nethers Pinson (retired nurse anesthetist), and 2 grandchildren: Adam, a senior engineering major at Carnegie Mellon University, and Claire, a premed, junior at Harvard.
Calling hours will be held at Hilgenfeld Mortuary in Anaheim on Sept. 16, 2017 from 12-4 p.m. with a moment of sharing at 2 p.m. John will be interred at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock, TX, next to his loving wife of 53 years. In lieu of flowers the family is asking donations to one of John's favorite charities: Texas Tech University; MIT; UC Irvine Med Center; or the Alzheimer's Association of Orange County.
