John “Johnny” Buel Griffith Jr. was born in Muskogee, OK on August 13, 1943, to Ruby McKibben Griffith Jones and John Buel Griffith Sr. Johnny went to be with Jesus May 18, 2023. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He loved Jesus and was a faithful member of The Message Church. He enjoyed sports, fishing, hunting, and spending time with The Legacy Group.
Johnny graduated from Central High in Muskogee, OK in May 1962. He attended South Plains College and was a sergeant in the Air Force for 4 years. He married Hester Joanna Arnold on December 29, 1964. They remained devoted to each other for fifty-eight wonderful years. They were blessed with four children. He worked at Tyco and retired after 37 years of service. He was a machine manager at Simmons Mattress for 11 years. Johnny then returned to Lubbock in 2014 to work with his son at Texas Electric.
He is survived by his beautiful wife, Joanna Griffith, and their four children: John Bryon Griffith and spouse, Lisa Griffith; Jeffery Earl Griffith and spouse, Alyssa Griffith; daughter, Julie Ann Griffith Whalen and spouse, Tim Whalen; and Jerrod Patrick Griffith and spouse, Bridgette Griffith. He was a dedicated “PaPa” to his Grandchildren: Shandi Jackson, Shayli McCartor, Chelsi Robison, Ali Aaron, Caleb Griffith, Seth Griffith, Kade Owens, Gunner Griffith, Raef Hickman, Dawson Bene, Chris La Pena and Christopher Whalen; and Great- grandchildren: Rafe Richardson, Brodyn Jackson, Shayne Griffith, Rykan McCartor, Krosby McCartor, Charli Robison, Channing Robison, Aspen Aaron and Dylan Griffith. Johnny is also survived by Sisters: De Lynch and spouse, J.R. Lynch, and Rita Ritter.
A celebration of life memorial service for John will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 10:00 AM at The Message, 5502 Auburn St, Lubbock, TX 79416.
