Joel married Barbara Wagoner November 9, 1979. Joel was a “bigger than life” man who had an addictive smile, a great sense of humor, a passion for music and sports, and was a true family man and extraordinary friend. He devoted 12 years to the Lubbock State Supported Living Center, where, most recently, he was the Director of the Foster Grandparent Program.
Joel’s joy of music was showcased through his performance in local bands. Joel played for Rev. Al and the Pythons, and Wooden Nickel. Not only was he a seasoned guitarist, but Joel was very eager to teach anyone guitar who would take the time to listen and had a desire to learn.
Joel was entrenched in his love for sports. Most recently, he lived baseball and football vicariously through his grandson, Jacob, whom he always encouraged and even helped coach. He loved his Red Raiders, Cowboys and his Rangers.
Joel was predeceased by his twin sister, Veronica. Joel’s survivors include his wife Barbara; children, Amy Moore and husband Rod of Lubbock, Jessica Trevino of Lubbock; Brian A. Rushing of Odessa, TX, Brad A. Rushing of Illinois; five grandchildren, Matthew, Meagan, Max, Jacob and Jaxon; one great-grandchild; and brother, Joe Trevino of San Antonio.
