Jerry Calvin Sisler was born September 24th, 1930 to Jenny Sue (Jane) Clanton Sisler and Charles Raney Sisler in Camp County, Arkansas. He and his parents and younger sister, Maribel (Beth) lived in the small community of Salem, near the Missouri border until after World War II. The family moved to Lubbock, Texas where they lived on 9th Street.
Jerry attended Lubbock High School where he was active in sports. Two weeks before graduation in 1948, Jerry met the love of his life, Leta Louise Roberson. The couple dated until after Leta graduated. They married on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 1950 and would be together for more than 70 years.
Fifty-three days after they were married, Jerry was drafted into the United States Army. The couple spent the next several years in Georgia. Because of his ability to type, Jerry served as the company’s clerk during the Korean War. After serving two years, he was discharged in 1953. He attended the University of Texas as a pharmacy student. But returned home, to Lubbock, Texas for the birth of his first daughter, Jerry Louise.
The new family moved to Monahans, Texas where Jerry worked for the Baldridge Bread Company. In 1956, Jerry rejoined the Army which took them back to Georgia and eventually to Red Stone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. He was a Lance-Corporal and member of the Military Police teaching defensive tactics when their second daughter Phyllis Marie was born.
In 1960, Jerry was discharged from the Army and the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona and then to Tucson, where Jerry worked for Jewel Tea Grocery Company. Here the family had their third daughter, Ruth Ann. They soon moved to California, where Jerry worked for Shamrock Milk Company in Encinitas. Their fourth daughter, Kathryn Lynn was born there.
After moving for a short time to Los Angeles, the family returned to Lubbock, Texas. Jerry accepted a job with Ricar Sewing Machine Company, selling and repairing sewing machines. While in Lubbock, their fifth daughter, Mary Jo was born.
In 1969 the family moved back Tucson, Arizona where Jerry worked for Carnation Milk Company servicing the larger accounts in the area. He retired from Carnation in 1979. In 1980, Jerry, Leta and their two youngest daughters moved back to Lubbock. For the next few decades, Jerry owned, managed or maintained several rental properties. He also began selling jewelry and then traveling selling cutlery. When he finally retired from travel, the couple settled into enjoying their thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Living contentedly until the death of Leta in 2021 after 70 years together. Jerry celebrated his 92nd birthday on Saturday, September 24th and then passed away Thursday afternoon, September 29, 2022.
Jerry is welcomed into heaven by parents, Jane and Charles Sisler, his sister Beth Ireton, his loving wife Leta Louise and daughter Jerry Louise Caldwell and Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.
