Jerry was born in Goodlett, Texas to Homer and Cordelia (Mahan) Poole on May 20, 1940. As the third oldest of ten children, he spent his youth finding ways to pester his sisters and create mischief with his brothers.
Jerry joined the United States Army in 1965, serving overseas in Korea. He was proud of his service to his country and the lessons he learned while in the Army. In 1983, Jerry received his Associates of Arts degree from Eastern New Mexico University, and began working as the Supply Manager for the US Army 4th ROTC Region at Eastern New Mexico University. During his many years of service, he received numerous awards and commendations of excellence.
During his time in Portales, New Mexico, he met his wife, Cynthia, and they married on March 20, 1990, in Fredricksburg, Texas.
After retirement, Jerry pursued his lifelong interest in automobiles, becoming a licensed car dealer. He also became a volunteer for the USDA-NRCS to spend more time with his wife, and volunteered with Portales 4-H, assisting his oldest daughter with various projects, and teaching her about horses. His youngest daughter, brought new adventures with pet goats, learning to ride horses, and a shared interest in small-game hunting.
Throughout his life, Jerry was an avid horseman, showing horses, with many belt buckle wins in western riding, reining, and team roping. Always quick with a story (usually a tall tale!), Jerry greatly enjoyed his daily coffee meetings with friends, and outings with the Lubbock Fun Club.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Cordelia Poole, his wife, Cynthia Poole, and two sisters, Gayle Holtzclaw and Sandra Poole.
He is survived by his daughters, Audra, and partner Greg, of Lubbock, and Gretta of Levelland, Texas, his granddaughter Athena, and by his brothers and sisters, Claudie Poole and wife Faye, of Enid, Oklahoma, Kenneth Poole and wife Carolene of Amarillo, Texas, Martha Clem and husband Lewis, of Camargo, Oklahoma, Shirley Pitts, of Duke, Oklahoma, Bobby Poole and wife Ann of Amarillo, Texas, Lucille Lindsey of Quannah, Texas, and Harold Poole and wife Cathy of Amarillo, Texas. Jerry will also be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and of course, many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Quarter Horse Foundation, 4-H, South Plains College Wesley Foundation, The Honor Flight Network, or Hospice of Lubbock.
