Jerry Dean Park passed away peacefully at home on April 17, 2012 following his recovery from pneumonia. He was born on August 27, 1932 in Paris, Texas, to Vivia Briggs Park and Roy Mesick Park. He attended Paris High School before entering the U.S. Navy and obtaining a G.E.D. He served in the VR21 Transport Squadron on Midway Island. For 43 years, he worked for Bell Dairy Products. After retirement, he worked for Dairy Queen and Alderson Cadillac.
Jerry was a former member of Redbud Lions Club and the Elks Lodge. He served as secretary for the Lubbock Restaurant Association for 15 years. He was active in the Travelers Protective Association and a member of Southcrest Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Robbie Sarvis of Alvin, Texas, and his second wife, Dixie Park.
Jerry is survived by his daughter Peggy Barton and husband, Steve, of Wylie, Texas, and a daughter, Sara McLaughlin, of Lubbock; two grandsons, Kyle Barton and wife, Shawna, of Wylie and Sean Barton and wife, Monica, of Dallas; granddaughter Miranda McLaughlin of Oakland, California; great-granddaughter Zylia Barton of Vernon; a sister, Ivene Heinrich, and husband, Gus, of Iola, Texas, and a brother, Charles Park, and wife Dee, of Marietta, Georgia; several cousins, nieces and nephews and close friends. He is also survived by two step-daughters: Gail Lara and husband, Alcario, of Lubbock; Cindy George and husband, Kevin, of Mesquite; one step-son, Mark Howle and wife, Laura Lea, of Lubbock; six step grandchildren, Brittany and Kelsey Lara, Lexie and Austin George, Leann Goolsby and Walter DeRidder; and one step-great-granddaughter, Zoie Lara-Contreras.
Memorial services will be held at Resthaven’ Abbey Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2012, with interment immediately following in the Resthaven Memorial Park.
