J. E. “Hank” Crawford, 88, of Lubbock, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 11, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 2, 1922 in Ripley, Mississippi to J. M. and Annie Crawford.
After high school graduation, Hank served in the U. S. Navy for four years during World War II. When the war ended, he returned to Mississippi State University where he played basketball and graduated with a B.S. in Advertising and Salesmanship.
Hank came to Texas to visit family and met the love of his life, Bonnie Baten. He courted her for over a year before they eloped on March 14, 1952. They enjoyed over 58 years together and raised two daughters, Carolyn and JoAnn.
Hank served the majority of his career as Manager of Central Stores at Texas Tech University and retired in 1980. He enjoyed bird hunting, golf and volunteering with Meals on Wheels for 20 years. Hank and Bonnie were long-time members of Southcrest Baptist Church and the Downtown Bible Class.
Hank is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughters Carolyn Guess and husband Tony of Millsap, Texas and JoAnn Caster and husband Johnny of Arlington, Texas; grandsons Jason Guess, Stephen Guess and Joshua Caster along with numerous relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Joel Landry and the staff at Accolade Hospice for their excellent care and compassion during the last few weeks of his life.

The family will receive friends at Resthaven funeral home on Tuesday, September 14 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel on Wednesday, September 15 at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
