Janice “Jan” Mears succumbed to illness on January 2, 2022, after fighting a short illness. Born in Lubbock, Texas, to Bessie and Randall Purdy in 1958, she moved to Lubbock after marrying her charismatic auto service mechanic. She was married for 42 years to her devoted husband, Andy Mears, and shared hobbies and adventures around the world.
She was a quilting extraordinaire and assembled a remarkable collection of quilting antiques and memorabilia. She embroidered the quilting motto, “more than a hobby, quilting is the art of her heart.” She also enjoyed collecting embellishments from her worldly travels.
Jan is survived by her husband Andy Mears of Lubbock; children Jamie and Nick Mears of Lubbock; granddaughter, Lyliana Franco of Lubbock; mother Bessie Purdy of Idalou; sister, Gail Brown of Lubbock; and preceded in death by her father Randell Marshall Purdyand extended family.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at Idalou Church of Christ, 307 Chestnut Street, Lubbock, Texas 79329.
