James was the president of Duke FFA, a member of the Oklahoma State High School Honor Society and Salutatorian of his high school graduating class of 1943 at Duke High School. He attended Oklahoma A&M at Stillwater Frank Phillips Jr. College and West Texas State.
James was an Army Veteran, a 33rd Degree Mason, Past Worthy Noble of Mystic Shrine and an Elder Emeritus at Westmont Christian Church.
He married Bessie Maye Barrett on December 22, 1944 in Stinnett, TX and Geneva Worsham on July 23, 1971 in Floydada, TX.
He retired as Briscoe County CED of the U.S. Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service (ASCS) in Silverton on October of 1987.
Preceded in death by a daughter Tyana Gay Griffin; his wife, Geneva Griffin; parents; brother, Don “Duck” Griffin.
Survived by his son, Ronnie Griffin, and wife Belynnda; daughter, Donna Irvin and husband Rick; step-daughter, Sharon Walker and husband Skip, all of Stinnett, TX; six grandchildren: Robin Purdy, DeDe Conaway, Brad Irvin, Ron Griffin II, Jeff Irvin and Michael Irvin; eleven great-grandchildren: Tae’lor Purdy-Korell, Bailey Irvin, Jeffery Irvin, Bay’lee Purdy, Zack Irvin, Alyssa Irvin, Aaron Irvin, Trey Griffin, Calli Griffin, Gentry Irvin, and Cash Conaway; two great-great grandchildren, Kamdyn Irvin and Landon Irvin.
