Harry T. Weaver passed away on January 1, 2024 at age 85. His wife of 63 years, Sarah, predeceased him in 2022. He is survived by their children Harry Jr. of Levelland, TX, Catherine Warner currently living in Italy, and Don of Denver, CO, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Harry was born in Brewton, AL on December 15, 1938. He attended Auburn University, earning his B.S. in Engineering Physics in 1960 and M.S. in Physics in 1961. Subsequently, he worked for Standard Oil Co., (now ExxonMobil) in Houston, TX for one year before returning to Auburn in 1963 to pursue his Ph.D. In 1967 his family, now including Harry, Jr. and Catherine, moved to Albuquerque where Don was born in 1969. Harry and Sarah lived in Albuquerque until 2022. After Sarah’s death, Harry moved to Lubbock, TX in 2023 to be near his son Harry Jr.
Harry initially moved to Albuquerque for a one-year appointment to complete his graduate research at Sandia National Laboratories. After falling in love with the great Southwest, he and Sarah decided to stay in Albuquerque. Harry held temporary and then permanent employment at Sandia, ending with retirement in the year 2000. Harry made significant contributions to science and engineering throughout his 32-year tenure at Sandia; the primary themes of his research included development of high efficiency solar cells, compound semiconductor device research, and microelectronics development and fabrication.
Following his retirement from Sandia, Harry joined the University of New Mexico as part time faculty, teaching courses on and supporting the fabrication of microelectronics devices within UNM’s laboratory facilities. He fully retired in 2010.
While he was active for many years in little league baseball and enjoyed personally participating in various team sports, over time, his interests turned to tennis, snow skiing, and finally golf.
Both he and Sarah enjoyed travel, mainly taken after the children were grown. But it was their children in which they took their greatest pride, both watching them and their own children grow, often following them across the country and even around the world.
There will be no service. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Harry’s name. Please visit our online guestbook for Harry at www.ResthavenFuneralHome.com.
