Gordon graduated from Monterey High School in Lubbock in 1982 where he was a varsity track star. After high school, he served in the United States Navy where he became a boiler technician on USS Charles F. Adams. In 1986, a tragic accident left him a quadriplegic and he retired from the Navy, spending most of his days in Dallas before returning to Lubbock last year. While this type of accident might have broken many, Gordon never let it break his spirit. He was the funniest and most sharp witted man until the very end.
Despite difficult circumstances, Gordon always tried to live his life to the fullest. He was an avid sports fan - you could almost always find him watching any and all sports. But most of all he loved the Dallas Cowboys, as he was a proud season ticket holder for more than 30 years. Gordon was also a massive music fan and loved going to concerts, especially Bruce Springsteen. He enjoyed a good cocktail and a great tv show and he couldn’t go to sleep without watching his daily episode of Family Feud. But above all else, he loved spending as much time as he could with his daughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Gordon is survived by his devoted and loving daughter Natasha and his 8 siblings: Wally of Eddy, TX, Jack of Gentry AR, Barry, of Prescott, AZ, Steve, Alan and Bryan, and sister Chris Kelley and Missy Stallings all of Lubbock, TX as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family & friends are invited to gather at 1pm June 21 at Resthaven Funeral Home & Memorial Park for a celebration of Gordon’s life. Everyone is encouraged to wear navy & white to honor his time in the navy as well as his beloved Dallas Cowboys (Cowboys apparel is welcomed).
