Born on February 14th, 1928, in Lubbock, TX, Gordon was the second son of Lola & Jewel Clifford (J.C.) Anderson. Growing up in Lubbock, he graduated from Lubbock High School in 1946, then attended Harding Christian College in Searcy, AR for his freshman year. Gordon then transferred to Texas Tech & later to Abilene Christian College, where he graduated in 1952 with a B.S. in Business Marketing. He began working full time in the family business,
Anderson Bros Jewelers, established by his father in 1923. He was involved in all marketing aspects of the business, as well as the buyer for “costume jewelry,” progressing to fine jewelry, & eventually becoming the department head for Silver, China, Crystal & Elegant Gift Goods. He also assisted customers on the sales floor from time to time. After more than four decades in the family business, he retired in 1991.
In 1954, Gordon married Linda Jean Ousley, of Pampa, TX, & they had two children, Laura Layne & Scott Gordon. After 23 years of marriage, Jean passed away & Gordon married Bula Jean Moudy, whom he had met at Harding College some 31 years earlier. Bula & Gordon enjoyed nearly 41 years of marriage before she passed away in 2018. Gordon was a lifelong member of Broadway Church of Christ, & from college days he was an active member of church choral groups, singing for countless weddings & funerals.
Gordon was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean; his wife, Bula; his parents, J.C. & Lola; sisters Kathleen Appleton, Fern Igo, & Lola Jewel Cleere; and brother Carroll Anderson. He is survived by his son, Scott Anderson & wife, Kimberly of Harford City, IN; and daughter, Laura Skains & husband, Quinn of Denton, TX; his sisters-in-law, Rosalee Anderson of Lubbock, & Lucy Moudy of Happy. Gordon is also survived by twelve nephews & seven nieces.
Gordon crossed over from this life to the next on Sunday, January 24th. Gordon was greatly loved & will be deeply missed by his many friends & family. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, outstanding businessman, & most of all a committed servant of Christ.
