Glenda was born in Lamoni, IA to William Glenn and Jose-phine Mae (Thorpe) Strong. As a child she enjoyed raising farm animals and pets, paying special attention to sick and injured ones. She graduated high school from Bethany High School in Bethany, MO. She obtained a nursing degree from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA, and was a licensed nurse for over 40 years. Her specialty was geriatric nursing; she sat at the bedside of many people in nursing homes and hospitals as they came to the end of their lives. Glenda worked as a nurse in Des Moines, IA; Salt Lake City, UT; and in the Lubbock area. Glenda’s natural ability to provide comfort and compassion allowed her to have a long and successful career.
Glenda was a hard worker and devoted herself to whatever she did. She loved children and animals: she enjoyed being on the small farm with her husband Leo raising and tending their horse, various livestock, and garden.
She was preceded in death by her son, William R. Campbell; and her father W. Glenn Strong.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Leo Tilford; daughter Terri Chavez and husband David; grandchildren Zack, Ethan, and Justin Chavez; mother Josephine Strong of Des Moines, IA; sister Goldia E. Mustain and husband Bill of Pineville, LA; brothers Gary Strong of Des Moines, IA, and Wayne Strong of Ft. Dodge, IA: step daughter Elisa Tilford and her husband Ray Wright of Des Moines, IA; a niece, 2 nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
