George Verlon Wright went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 11, 2024. He was born in Floyd County, TX on November 9, 1925 to the late Wayne Wright and Lillie Roberts. He married Betty Jo Horn in March, 1971. They had 51 years together before she passed in April, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Charlie Wright, Ona Ruth Neff; a daughter Paula Wright and a grandson Grant Kinslow.
Verlon was a strong man of faith. He was a Sunday school teacher and a long time greeter at Broadview Baptist church. He loved his church family. Verlon was a Navy Veteran and very proud of serving his country. He spent most of his life as a farmer in Floyd County. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He was a kid at heart and was always ready to spend time having fun with the kids doing various things. His family was very important to him and he always had a smile on his face when the kids and grandkids came over to see him. He loved playing Double 9’s.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory children: Betty Lou Kinslow and husband Bary, Leon Wright, Michael Burk and wife Carol, Charlotte LaPaglia and husband Mike, Joe Wright, Randy Burk and wife Sherri, Cindy Hickman and husband Robert. Grandchildren: Jenifer Reeves, Kenneth Wright, Jennifer Bartlett, Justin Burk, Melissa Johnson and Dalton Hickman; 17 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Also left to mourn his loss are his two caregivers: Lydia Juarez and Ami Myers. He loved them like family.
Pallbearers are: Tony McCullough, Kelly McCullough, Justin Burk, Dalton Hickman, Braden Bartlett and Preston Johnson.
Viewing will be at Resthaven Funeral Home on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Funeral Service will be on Friday, March 15, 2024 at Broadview Baptist Church located at 1302 North Frankford with interment following at Resthaven Memorial Park.
