Mountain View April 30, 1928.
George enlisted in the United States Navy after high school. After his military service, he attended Oklahoma State University.
Later working for an oilfield supply company he
moved to Crescent Oklahoma, where he met his future wife Glenna at the local drugstore, the
“hangout” in town. After they married, and were raising young two daughters, his job took the family to
Lubbock. George eventually retired from a long sales career at Clowe and Cowan. Glenna and George
were married 70 years.
Those expressing their condolences all seem to mention George’s “sweetness”. His quietness and
calmness resonated with anyone who talked to George. His opinions were always without rancor, but
expressed with thoughtfulness.
George loved watching his Lubbock grandson play baseball, starting with t-ball to Monterey High
where he was known as Grand Dad to the entire Plainsmen team. In later years George loved
puttering in his yard, tending plants and flowers.
George was predeceased by his parents Roy and Jewel Calvert, brothers Floyd and Donald Wayne
Calvert, and son-in-law J W Holt.
Those left to celebrate his life are his wife Glenna, daughters Carla Holt
and Carol Lowe, grandchildren Jason Rudder of Pflugerville, Reagan Rudder of Round Rock, Christa
Sweeney and husband Ryan of Austin, and Jeffrey Holt of Lantana TX, great granddaughters Finley
Rudder and Ayla Sweeney.
The family wishes to thank Kindred Hospice and Legacy of the South Plains for their care and many
kindnesses shown to George, especially in these trying times. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations
will be made to South Plains Food Bank.
Visitation will be Friday, February 5, 2021 from 12-1 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM Friday February 5, 2021 at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel.
