Garry Lynn Dixon

Garry Lynn Dixon, age 70, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 24th, 2023, at his home in Lubbock, Texas. He was born on March 10th, 1952 to Betty Faye Gaines in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, a month after he was born she met Buddy Foran and he became his father.

Throughout his early years, Garry resided in Oklahoma City graduating Southeast High School in 1970. From there Garry joined the Air Force and served until he was medically discharged in 1988 as a Master Sergeant. During this time, he met the love of his life Julia Ann Dixon (Boothe) and they were married on March 31st, 1973 in Lubbock, TX. After the Air Force, Garry went to Texas Tech University and graduated with a Degree from the School of Business in 1993. Garry worked as an area director for Bell Gas from 1988 to 1998, then went to work for the County as a tax assessor from 1998-2014 when he retired.

During Garry's and Julia's life together they welcomed three wonderful children into their lives. Garry Lynn Dixon, Jr. (Heather Stafford), Joseph Dixon, and Stephanie (Carl) Pitts. Later welcoming, three grandchildren; Brea Stafford, Elijah McGee, and Lillian Pitts.

Throughout his lifetime Garry loved children and was very active in all of his children's activities. He was known to coach soccer, baseball, and football. He supported both Boy and Girl Scouts. He could never pass by a cookie booth without purchasing, nor a Bass Pro Shop for that matter. As his children grew up and moved out, he traveled more and took several trips to Yellowstone. He enjoyed a good campfire and even bought a Chiminea to have a "campfire" at home. He enjoyed volunteering at the hospital as a greeter and surgery waiting room attendant. Despite being a reserved individual, he worked hard at being a people person. He enjoyed working as an Usher at Church and provided candy to children and even some of the more mature ladies of the congregation. He enjoyed Fishing, Grilling and being a Papa to his grandchildren.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents: Buddy and Betty Foran.

Garry is survived by his wife, Julia Dixon. Children: Garry Lynn Dixon Jr., (spouse Heather Stafford), Joseph Dixon, Stephanie Pitts, (spouse Carl Pitts). Grandchildren: Brea Stafford, Elijah McGee, and Lillian Pitts. Sisters: Janice McGlasson (spouse Mickey), Phyllis Briggs, Dora Rodgers (spouse Tim) , Six Nieces, Two Great-Nieces, and Four Great-Nephews.

A Service will be held for Garry Lynn Dixon on Friday March 3rd at 2:00pm at Green Lawn Church of Christ (5701 19th St, Lubbock, TX 79407). A graveside service to follow at Resthaven (5740 19th St, Lubbock, TX 79407). Visitation will be Thursday March 2nd from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Resthaven Funeral Home.
