Francis Ruth Pierson

Fran was born on November 25, 1929 to Nora and Edgar J. Willis in Hugo, Oklahoma. Fran was a private pilot in her youth and later graduated from the University of Oklahoma.

She met and married Howard J. Pierson Sr. in 1952. Fran and Howard Sr. went on to have four children, Howard Jr., Hilda and twins Stephen and Heidi. The family first moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1969.

Fran dedicated her life to education. She was an elementary school teacher for 40 years, retiring from teaching English as a second language in Idalou, Texas. After retiring she spent her time gardening, traveling and spending time with her family.

Fran was predeceased in death by her Mother, Nora Ketchum, Father, Edgar J. Willis and her eldest son Howard Jr.

She is survived by her sister Juanita Gardner and niece Lynda Gardner of Everett, Washington, (daughter) Hilda and Howard Adams of Lubbock, (son) Steve and Paige Pierson of Espanola, New Mexico and (daughter) Heidi and Larry Simmons of Lubbock. Eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Francis passed away peacefully in her home cared for by her friend and home healthcare professional Alesia Barr and the staff of Accent Care hospice with special thanks to Estella, Stephanie and Heather. Her companion for the last fifteen years is her cat Tuffy who has never left her side. He will continue to reside in Lubbock.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 15 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and burial will be held in Resthaven Memorial Park on December 15 at 11:30 am. After graveside remembrances Fran’s family and friends will be welcome to celebrate Fran’s life with the family. Guests will be welcome at the home of Heidi and Larry Simmons.
