Ewell E. Booker

Ewell was born on April 12, 1919 in Hill County, Texas. His family moved to Ralls, Texas when Ewell was a boy where his family farmed a small piece of land. In 1928 the family moved to Lubbock where Ewell lived for the remainder of his life. Ewell graduated from Lubbock High School in 1937. At the age of 21, he fell in love with Georgia Ruth Pierce. They were married shortly after and started a family. Throughout his life, Ewell was a loving and romantic husband, kind and generous father, loyal and trusted friend, and faithful servant of God. His relationship with Christ and the Church defined him.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Dorothy Scott Booker; three sisters: Ann Orr of Edmond, Oklahoma, Nelda Shuman of Artesia, New Mexico and Mary Montandon of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; his children: George Booker and wife Edna of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Leroy Booker and wife Wanda of Lockhart, Texas, Linda Booker of Austin, Texas, Jeanette Campbell and husband Jerry of Haughton, Louisiana, Shirlene Justice and husband David of Austin, Texas, and Tommy Booker and wife Linda of Lubbock; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren with two on the way; six great-great-grandchildren; Dorothy’s daughters: Sandra Blackwood and husband Rod, of Lubbock, Linda Hutchins of Lubbock and their children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Georgia Ruth Booker; by Goldie Jones Booker whom he married in 1995; his brothers, Julian Booker and Marshall Booker; his twin sister, Jewel Curry; and three grandsons: Carl Booker, Stephen Wright, and Bert Hollis.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home on Friday, July 18. Funeral services for will be at Greenlawn Church of Christ on Saturday, July 19 at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Lubbock Children’s Home.
