She attended Ute Valley grade school with 7 other children until the family moved to a farm near Texline Texas in 1938. Emma Belle attended Draughn’s Business College in Lubbock where she met and later married the love of her life, Dwain Short, on August 11, 1947. She was a reporter for Dodge Reports- McGraw-Hill and was a past President of the local Chapter of the “National Association of Women in Construction”. After 20 years she retired to spend time with her grandchildren. Emma Belle loved the Holidays and lived to cook and entertain her family.
Emma Belle is survived by her husband, Dwain, two sons, Bruce and his wife Teresa, Ricky Short and wife Judy; daughter-in-laws, Connie Thornburg and Janet Short; brother Bill Sheets, and wife Vernell; sisters, Esther Misener, Lenola Roland, Caroline Hall and Fern Hamilton; 6 grandchildren Cheryl, Janel, Brent, Danny, Amanda and Lindsay and 6 great grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, son Larry Dwain Short; daughters, Cheryl Ann Short and baby girl Short; brother, Eulan Sheets.
Visitation will be held Sunday December 16 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Monday December 17 at 1:00 pm in Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
