Elizabeth Ann Hood

Liz was born in Wellington, Texas to Helen and John Hurst. She eloped on June 14,1958 at 18 years old with the love of her life, Donald Carl Hood. Don enlisted in the Army and they lived in Italy where their son, Marc, was born. Upon their return to Texas they settled in Lubbock and were soon blessed with their daughter, Caron. Liz graduated from Texas Tech with a bachelor’s degree in English and in 1970 completed her master’s degree in French. Liz taught junior high for Lubbock Independent School District, first at Mackenzie Jr High and later at O.L. Slaton Jr. High, retiring in 2003. Liz loved teaching and for many years she spent her summers chaperoning student tour groups across Europe.

In the 1980’s Liz and Don discovered their love for traveling on their Harley Davidsons, and they travelled all over the United States on them. They later invented the Lazy Rider motorcycle bag and began a successful business selling the bags to retail stores, at rallies, and on the internet. In 2019, Liz moved into her “Nonny Apartment” at Caron and Dan’s house in Huntsville, Texas where they loved and cared for her until the end.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Don Hood, and son, Marc Hood.

She leaves behind her daughter, Caron Skarke, her husband, Dan, daughter in law Dahlia Hood, grandchildren Sarah Rushing (Ben), Matthew Skarke (Crystal), Erin Rickman (Eli), Michael Skarke (Jenny), Dustin Nelson (Shannon), Nicole Hood, RC Moehle (Gabby), Aryan Hussain, and Mariam Hussain, great-grandchildren Braden Rushing, Bryce Nelson, Camden Rushing, Sadie Rushing, Clarke Skarke, and Astreya Moehle.

The family will host a visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock, Texas on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. The funeral will be held at Westmont Christian Church, 4808 Utica Avenue on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 2:00 pm, followed by burial at Resthaven Cemetary. In lieu of flowers please make donations in honor of Liz Hood to Women’s Protective Services or Texas Girls and Boys Ranch.
