The family moved to a farm south of Wolfforth in 1942 where Elizabeth graduated from Frenship High School. She attended Texas Technological College for one year and then married Bennie Bob Hobgood on March 31, 1946.
Elizabeth began her married life as a housewife and became the proud mother of three children. She tirelessly put her energy into her family, cooked countless meals each week, and enjoyed playing bridge as a pastime. Throughout their marriage, Elizabeth and B.B. (as she fondly called him) were avid Frenship Tiger and Texas Tech Red Raider fans, whether watching TTU sports in person or on the television.
During this same time, Elizabeth faithfully played the organ at her church and enjoyed the work and friendships she made as an active member of the Lubbock Alpha Phi Mother’s Club. After her children finished high school, she began working in retail several years before making a career change to the Purchasing Department at Texas Tech University. She continued her love of playing bridge, joined a women’s bowling league, and played golf as a member of the Lakeridge Women’s Golf Association. Her long life continued to be fulfilled through bowling, golfing, and playing bridge.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Bob, her son, Dan, her daughter-in-law Karen, her mother, Nan, her father, Leo, and most recently her great granddaughter, Reese Hamsmith.
She is survived by her daughters, D’Nan (Mike) Mathis, Debbie Thompson (Scott George), and grandchildren: Chad (Laura) Mathis, Coby (Megan) Thompson, Trista (Chris) Hamsmith, Kami Thompson (Rhett Graham), Brad Hobgood, Cody Hobgood and six great grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Don (Gay) Davis of Dallas.
