Funeral services for Eddie West, 77, of Lubbock, will be at 10 am on Saturday, November 19, 2011, in Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel. Burial will follow at Resthaven. Mr. West passed away on Wednesday, November 16th, at Trust Point Hospital of complications following recent surgery.
Eddie was born on December 30, 1933 in Muleshoe, TX to Edward and Margaret Willingham West. They moved to Elida, New Mexico, when he was 4. He graduated from Elida High School in 1952 and New Mexico State University in 1957. He retired as a vocational agriculture teacher in Texico in 1991, after 33 years of teaching. He was honored as Texico’s Man of the Year in 1985.
Following his retirement he and Katherine traveled to 45 states before he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. He was a member of Redbud Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Katherine; three sons, Sam and wife, Debbie of Kenna, NM, Joe and wife, Florine of Chillicothe, Kevin and wife, Sheila of Erie, Colorado; his sister, Karen and husband Jerry Askew of Amarillo; eleven grandchildren, Angela Sims, Becky Cooper, Jimmy and Thomas West, Brent West, Christy Brooks, Stefanie Bradford, Tifani Acosta, Cody West, Kristopher West and Corbin West; fourteen great grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Ladelle Williamson of Lubbock; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Williamson of Pflugerville; a sister-in-law, Mary Williamson of Cedar Park and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to: West Texas Parkinsons Association, South Plains Food Bank, or the donor’s favorite charity.
