

Dr. Halan O.L. Wright, Memorial Services will be held on Thursday December 29th 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Lubbock, TX. Dr. Harlan O.L. Wright of Lubbock, TX, passed away on December 20th at the age of 90.
He was born on June 24th, 1921, in Los Angeles, CA, and went to school in Hollywood, CA. He attended UCLA and College of Osteopathic Physician & Surgeons in Los Angeles. He was married to Jacquelyn (Lynne) Young for 68 years and had 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Dr. Wright was an osteopathic physician specializing in nutritional medicine. He practiced for more than 57 years, 51 of them in Lubbock, Texas. He practiced his early years as a General Practitioner, OBGYN, and Anesthesiologist. He delivered more than two thousand babies, and Lynne often tagged along as his nurse when he was the only doctor in Sundown, TX. Dr. Wright practiced with Dr. Raymond Mann and Dr. Robert Maul for many years in Lubbock. He published two books of nutritional and medical advice, as well as many articles in medical and nutritional journals; was Chief of Staff of Lubbock Osteopathic Hospital; was on the State of Texas Osteopathic Medical Association Board for many years; and for 11 years had a call-in radio advice show.
Dr. Wright was a national double champion in tennis in the 70+ age group. He had a pleasing singing voice and sang often at various events. He had a private pilot’s license, built a sports car, and served as mayor in Sundown, TX. He loved to develop his own photos, leaving us with important moments chronicled. He was very involved in his three boys’ sports, including coaching basketball and baseball. He was made an honorary member of Delta Tau Delta at Texas Tech in 1971. He gave free and non-judgmental medical advice to the chapter while his sons were active members.
Dr. and Mrs. Wright have been members of First United Methodist Church since 1958 and are members of the Homebuilders Sunday School Class. Dr. and Mrs. Wright had a home in Alto, New Mexico, where he spent many hours working on his books and enjoying his “little bit of heaven.” He loved to write and got a lot of inspiration from the mountains and surrounding natural beauty. The practical advice Dr. Wright gave his patients helped establish sound lifestyle habits that led people to the goal of optimal health. “There is no magic wand that will give us health, but there are many natural laws, which, if utilized, can bring us back to true health-not just temporary freedom from a particular disease.”
Dr. Wright is survived by his wife Jacquelyn (Lynne) Wright; Karen and Tom Story, Laura, Zephyr & Mesa Story; Lisa Story; and Heather & Jay Gould; Carol and Morris Dudley; Todd and Jhanna, Brandon, Logan, and Morgan Dudley; Bryan, Peta, Amanda, Jordan, Nathan and Dara Dudley Michelle and Jeff Allen; Craig and Becky, Garrett and Hayden Wright, Gary and Anne Wright; Traci, Ben, Pat-rick & Alex Redding, Jeremy Wright; Jeff and Cara Wright; David and Lori, Carly Ann and Jaycie Wright. “Always re-member that God designed for us a wonderful body with the ability to maintain itself in a good health if only we will give it half a chance. Health, after all, is very simple thing.” He had a wonderful life.
