Doyle Newman Lusk

Doyle Newman Lusk was 88 years old, born July 10, 1932 in Coolidge, Texas. He was the first child of Doyle Lusk and Esther Hanson Lusk. He was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mabank, Texas and moved to Shallowater at age 14, regrettably leaving behind his horse, Tony.

Newman excelled in sports and graduated from Shallowater High School. He was awarded an athletic scholarship at TCU, but he declined the offer. He briefly played minor league baseball for the Lubbock Hubbers, then settled into a life of farming and ranching.

Newman married Alice Russell on September 1, 1950. After her passing, he married Katherine Wootonn on June 21, 1991. He was a kind and loving partner.

He was a member of the Shallowater Lions Club, Shallowater Methodist Church, and Vice President of the Shallowater School Board. He served on many church committees. He coached Pee Wee, Little League, and Pony League Baseball.

Newman had a passion for fishing, hunting, his family, his church, reading the Bible, sports, and crafting wood projects, (which he continually gave away). He loved animals and farm life.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Harry Lusk; first wife, Alice Russell Lusk; step-daughter, Sonja and husband Jim Cole; and his step-daughter, Denise Underwood.

He is survived by a very large and loving family; 3 children: Mansell Lusk and wife, Becky, Cindy Brashear and husband, Ken, Rusty Lusk and wife, Sherri; 3 grandchildren: Karen Caballero and husband, Nick, Kristy Jones and husband, David, Alana Hayes and husband, Ben; 7 great-grandchildren: Nathan and Emma Caballero, Lila Devenport, Hunter, Finnlea, Asher, and Grayson Hayes; 5 step-children: Sonja Cole and husband, Jim (both preceded him in death), Denise Underwood (who also preceded him in death), Ronnie Wootonn, Renee Frehulfer and husband, Steve, Richard Wootonn and wife, Sheila; 17 step-grandchildren: Jennifer Cole, Stacey Wenzel and Jeremy, Michael Cole and Kristie, Storm Murry, Teagan Murry, Seth Murry and Kara, Amy Wells and Aaron, Jason Wootonn and Bobbie, Justin Wootonn, Tawny Zachary and Jerad, Tyler Callahan and Lindsay, Raven Griffin and Josh, Kylie Land and Garth, Brooke Plunkett and Charlie, Ashley Dillman and Jim, Amanda Szymborski and Paul, Josh Wootonn and Izzy; 32 step-great-grandchildren: Austin and Houston Wenzel, Maxx and Owynn Cole, Kelan and Aedan Murry, Kaitlin and Brayden Murry, Kaleigh and Kerrigan Wells, Mason, Jonah, Blake, and Bristol Wootonn, Adrian Wootonn, Harper Zachary, Karsyn and Westin Callahan, Paisley Griffin, Kyson, Jason, Ben Ashton, and Zoey Land, Zach, Chew, Hayley, and Tristan Plunkett, Mehki Witherspoon, Kadence Bernavides; 3 step-great-great-grandchildren: Maisyn Wenzel; Khaebri Wells; Alice Murry.

We will miss him.

The family will receive guests from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 22, 2021 at First United Methodist Church of Shallowater. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
