Dorothy C. McReynolds

Dorothy grew up in Sweetwater, TX where she graduated from high school in 1946. She attended McMurry College in Abilene, TX where she was a music major. On June 1, 1948 she married the Rev. William D. McReynolds. During their 64 year marriage, they served churches all over the Northwest Texas and New Mexico Conferences. Everywhere they went, Dorothy shared her musical gifts, singing solos, playing the piano and organ, even serving occasionally as choir director. After her children were all in school, Dorothy returned to college, graduating from McMurry College in 1970. She then taught elementary school until her retirement. At one point during her career, she returned to school to earn Special Education credentials. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one daughter, Ann Elizabeth McReynolds. She is survived by her children including Ellen Coffman and husband, Larry; Russell McReynolds, Clay McReynolds and wife Cindy as well as one foster daughter, Luanie Kok. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, numerous friends and former students all of whom will miss her.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Methodist Children’s Home at 1111 Herring Ave. in Waco, TX 76708 or to St. John United Methodist Church at 1501 University Ave. in Lubbock, TX 79401.
