She went to school in Levelland and graduated in 1947 from Levelland High School. While in high school or soon after she met her future husband of 60 years and lifelong love Shelton Berry of Ropesville. They were married on May 1, 1948 in Clauene, Texas. Shelton had served in the Navy during World War II and became reactivated in 1951 and she accompanied him to duty at naval stations in Washington and New Jersey.
After leaving the Navy they moved to Midland and Sundown where Shelton worked as an accountant in the oil industry. After a few years Shelton received his CPA certificate and they settled in Lubbock for the rest of their lives.
Doris was active in civic, social and religious groups most of her life. She was a member of the First Assembly of God. She will be remembered as a very kind, generous and fun loving person who enjoyed traveling with Shelton and their friends and family. She especially enjoyed going out for dinner and dancing with their many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Shelton; parents C.D. and Mary Fielding; a brother C.D. Fielding, Jr. and her brother in law, Jimmy D. Daniel. She is survived by her siblings Glenda Sue Daniel of Lubbock and Harold Fielding and wife Delores of Levelland. She is also survived by her son Steve Berry and wife Sara of Santa Fe, NM and her daughter Beverly Hensley and husband Steve of Lubbock and grandchildren Matthew and Madison Hensley. In addition she is also survived by her grandniece Casey Fielding who helped Doris live in her home when her health deteriorated. She was also blessed to have many loving and caring nieces and nephews and friends who always stopped by to visit her in her final years. The family is also very grateful to the caregivers at Home Instead and Accolade.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Tuesday at Resthaven Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 9:30am. Following that a celebration of life service will be held at the First Assembly of God in Lubbock at 11am Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the First Assembly of God or Lubbock Meals on Wheels.
