Dan Ellis Moore, Jr. passed away on October 4, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas, the city where he was born on October 14, 1947. A lifelong resident of Lubbock, Dan dedicated much of his time to volunteering for local non-profits both as a youth and an adult. He was a beloved figure in the community, known for his conservative political views and affectionately regarded as the "beloved grumpy guy."
Dan was a proud graduate of Coronado High School and later attended Texas Tech University before completing his education at Wayland Baptist University. Professionally, he served as a Texas Peace Officer and was also a skilled building contractor. His commitment to service and community safety was deeply respected.
In his personal life, Dan was a charter member of Agape Methodist Church, where he and formed lasting bonds with fellow members.
Dan was first married to El Wanda Elkins on April 22, 1973, until her passing on February 20, 2011. He found love again and married Linda Higgins on February 25, 2013; she passed away on June 30, 2018. Dan's family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his cherished daughter, Marsha Lane Moore White; his favorite son-in-law, Rodrick White; and his adored grandson, Jonathan White, who was the light of his life. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Lee Moore, parents, Daniel E. Moore, Sr. and Lenoir Davis Moore, and his wives, El Wanda Elkins Moore and Linda Higgins Moore.
Dan Moore, Jr. will be remembered as a devoted family man, a committed public servant, and a steadfast member of his community. His legacy of dedication and love will continue to live on through his family and the many lives he touched.
A visitation for Dan will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven, with a A celebration of life service beginning at 1:00 PM. A graveside committal service will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
