Dallas Vernon Brown, 53 was born in Bridgeport, Alabama on October 5th, 1958 to Warren and Violet (DeAnna) Brown. The Lord called him home on July 20th, 2012 after a ten year battle with Parkinson’s disease and a short battle with a brain tumor. He displayed brave courage in his fight.
Celebration of life services will be held on July 31st, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn church of Christ with Dale Mannon officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery .
Dallas met the love of his life, Deborah Bayne at Lubbock Christian College, now LCU. They were married on August 14th, 1981 in Lubbock, Texas. They were married for 30 years. One of their greatest blessings was when they were given a precious gift from God as he chose them to be parents of Jeremy Warren, their only child.
Dallas was blessed to be raised by military parents and was able to live in Okinawa, Oregon, New York, Washington D.C., Colorado, Missouri and Holland.
Dallas was an only child until the age of 12 when he was happily blessed with a brother Marvin L. Tapp, Jr., and sisters Betty and Bonita Tapp and a stepfather, Marvin L. Tapp Sr. whom he called “Pop”. He was later blessed with another brother Matthew Tapp.
Dallas graduated from Florissant High School in Florissant, Missouri in 1976, York College in 1978, LCC in 1980 and LCU in 1987 He received an MBA from Colorado Tech in 2008.
He taught junior high and senior high math. He worked for TDCJ until illness prevented him from working.
He had a gift for singing and writing. He wrote and published four books of spiritual poetry. He was active in the York College Choir, the Hallelujah Choir, Toastmasters, Parkinson’s Support group and a men’s bible study group at Greenlawn. He served as a deacon at Parkway Drive Church of Christ in Lubbock.
Dallas loved attending church services and the men’s bible study group and was very sad when illness prevented him from being able to attend.
He was an avid fan of the World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and the national championship Alabama Crimson Tide football team. Both teams received glory which made Dallas proud and happy however he received the greatest glory which is a home in heaven.
He was preceded in death by his father, Warren Brown in 1970, his mother DeAnna Tapp in 2012, his stepfather, Marvin Tapp Sr. in 1984 and a baby brother Garth Tapp in 1972.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah and son Jeremy of Lubbock, his brother Marvin Jr. of Valparaiso, Indiana, his sisters Bonita and Betty Tapp of Columbus ,Ohio and a brother Matthew of Lubbock, mother in love Grace Bayne and a brother in love David Bayne, a cousin Billy Brown in Tennessee, four nephews, two nieces, countless brothers and sisters in Christ as well as friends.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Greenlawn church of Christ, Accolade Home Health especially Leticia Sanchez, Debbie Robertson and David Fulkerson, Hospice of Lubbock especially Diana Lara, Patti Grant, DeAnne Haberstroh, Carol Satterwhite, Bruce Cotton and Diane Lewis, Dr. Micheal Rice, PA Kristen Zuniga, Adult Protective Services staff (Deborah’s employer) and the Joe Arrington Cancer Center.
