Carlton “Corky” Matthews left this life peacefully on July 8, 2023 at the age of 70. Corky was born in Lubbock, TX on June 4, 1953. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1970 and married Janice Anderson on June 27, 1970. She preceded him in death on October 17, 2013.
Corky worked his vision and for over fifty years he was a respected business owner of the following companies: Matthews Plumbing, Matthews Backhoe Inc., Regis Recycling, and West Texas Raceway. He was also a contributing member of the Lubbock Elks Lodge #1348 and member of Green Lawn Church of Christ.
Corky had a great love for his children, grandchildren and his best furry friend, Bindi. He loved everything outdoors. Some of his favorites were: flying, fishing, racing, and hunting at his Ranch.
He is survived by his son Roy and wife Misty; daughter-in-law, Holly; grandchildren: Tyler (Kayli and Austin), Ian (Bekah), Buff, Kaidyn and Seth; his mother, Reba Matthews; sisters, Jalain Sandlin and Brenda Murphy; special friends: Cathy Purnell, Bo and wife Jaime, Brenden Kerr, Ryan and wife Jade, Jackson, and Riley Schmidt; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Roy Matthews; his wife, Janice Matthews; his children, Scooter and Misty Matthews; his grandson, Roy “Fella” Matthews III; and his only brother, Terry Matthews.
The family invites you to join them as they honor and celebrate his life with a visitation beginning on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 5pm-8pm at Resthaven Funeral Home. Services will continue Thursday, July 13, 2023 with a Celebration of Life at 10am in Green Lawn Church of Christ, 5701 19th St. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations in Corky’s honor can be made to the Texas Boys Ranch.
