Cora “Sue” Morris was born December 7, 1936 to Herbert Clifton Morris and Allie Fancher Morris at their home in Lubbock, Texas. She graduated from Lubbock High school in 1955, where she participated in a variety of activities including Y- Teens, Westernaires, and Musicians Guild. Sue worked for Furr’s general office for several years . She attended Texas Tech in 1956 and 1957 and was a member of Phi Gamma Nu sorority. She attended First Baptist Church, where she met Charles Guy Wright. They married on August 21,1957 in the Ford Chapel at First Baptist Church and immediately traveled to Killeen, Texas where “Charlie” was stationed at Fort Hood.
Charlie and Sue moved back to Lubbock after Charlie's time in the Army, where they were active members of First Baptist Church; both sang in the choir. After working for many years with Sue’s father at H.C. “Pip” Morris Oil Co.,they purchased the company and renamed it Wright Oil. The couple worked side by side for many years. Sue eventually stepped away from the business in 1975 to raise their daughter, Cheryl. In 1992, she went back to work, in 1992, for the Lubbock Independent School district where she worked at Rush Elementary, Mackenzie Junior High, and Central Office over the years.
Sue was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She spent years caring for her daughter Cheryl, her granddaughter Olivia, and even their friends. Through generations, she made sure every child had a safe ride home, a place to stay, or something to eat. She was a shining example of female strength and an amazing role model for her nieces, her daughter, her granddaughter and the other young women around her.
A high energy lady who loved being outside, Sue liked to see new things and to always be moving. She was either working, walking outside or exploring, even until the day before her passing.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband Charlie, her parents, her sister Patricia Ann Morris, and her sister, O’Veta Blackburn. She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Bushey; granddaughter Olivia Wright; son-in-law Walt Bushey; niece Marcia Blackburn Smyth (Raoul) of Orange, California; great nephew Paul Smyth (Anna) of Orange, California; great grand niece Ruslana Smyth and great grand nephew Lucas Smyth, also of Orange, California.
