Clara R. Goodman, 82, of Lubbock, passed away on Friday, March 25th, 2011. A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Highland Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Clara was born in Floyd County, Texas, to L.B. and Della Cozby and graduated from Floydada High School in 1946. Shortly after graduation, she married T.C. Goodman on June 24, 1946, and they enjoyed 64 years sharing life together. They had four children and lived in various places from Japan to Texas during their marriage. After T.C.’s retirement from the US Air Force, they moved to Lubbock in 1963. Clara was a school library clerk and a bookkeeper. She loved reading, church fellowship, playing dominoes, trailer traveling with friends, and crocheting beautifully unique afghans treasured by her family – she always said, “Love is in every stitch.”
Clara was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry; her parents; and two sisters, Cleo Reeves and Ruth Perry. Clara is survived by her husband; children Bruce Goodman and wife Anne of Rio Rancho NM, Linda Nichols and husband Nicholas of Germantown TN, and Nancy Detmore and husband Paul of Missouri City TX; grandchildren Valerie Wrede and husband James of Spangdahlem Air Base Germany, Shelley Kestner and husband James of Arvada CO, Anne Schmitt and husband Eric of Minneapolis MN, Elizabeth Hawkins and husband Charles of Memphis TN, Brad Detmore and Mackenzie Detmore of Missouri City TX; great grandchildren Alex and Rachel Wrede, Katherine Schmitt, and Heidi and Asa Kestner; brother L.B. Cozby, Jr. and wife Lucy of Floydada TX and sister Dee Bransom and husband Don of Magnolia TX. Clara also leaves much loved nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Highland Baptist Church or the donor’s favorite charity. Condolences may be offered at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com
