He married Gayle Burkett August 27, 1954 in Wichita Falls, Charlie and Gayle then moved to Lubbock where Charlie attended Texas Tech University. He served in the US Army 1955-1957. In 1958 he co-founded and co-owned Potato Specialties in Lubbock.
He served as past president of several organizations including, South Plains Shriners; Hub City Lions Club and the Tumbleweed Travel Trailer Club.
Charlie loved to travel and go on cruises with his wife Gayle. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and he loved to spend time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory are, his wife, Gayle Young of Lubbock; Daughters, Lisa Hill and her husband Alan of Lubbock; Paige Woods and husband Woody of Lubbock; Grandchildren, Crystal Duncan; Heather Hill and Tyler Gentry and wife Cami; Great-grandchildren, Skylen and Rylx Duncan; sisters Joan Dunahoo of Lubbock and Barbara Lewis of Wichita Falls, his Brother, Johnny Young of Las Vegas and several nieces and nephews.
