Charles Lucian Ricks, Jr., 61, departed Lubbock for his heavenly home October 24, 2015, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on November 4, 1953, to Frances Forster and Charlies Lucian Ricks. Charlie graduated from Highlands High School in San Antonio and completed the Automotive Machine Trades program at South Plains College. He married Linda Smith Stricklin on July 10, 1992.
Charlie worked at Whites Stores in San Antonio, Hobbs, Santa Fe, and Lubbock from the time he was in high school until he joined his father and brother in the family automotive repair business, Ricks and Sons Automotive. He eventually became sole proprietor and shifted the focus of the business to automotive performance.
He attended Indiana Avenue Baptist Church and loved the Hendrick Sunday School class. Charlie was a life member of the Lubbock Mustang Club and was the club’s events chair for years. He was the ultimate “car guy” and was particularly passionate about Fords, especially Mustangs, and Roush Racing.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Linda, her children Jennifer Busick (Richard) of Dallas and Ron Stricklin of Galveston, the light of Charlie’s life, grandchildren Kennedy and Jackson Busick; his brother Dennis Ricks (Karen) of Mansfield, his sister Becky Vetterick of Kingwood, and a host of friends.
The family thanks Covenant Palliative Care and Hospice of Lubbock for the compassionate care they provided Charlie in his last weeks. A gift to your favorite charity would be a fitting memorial to Charlie.
